company history

VIMAFLOUR LTD

In the late 70s, Cailan, a location at the famous Halong Bay with a deep water port was selected by the Government of Vietnam to be the site for the first flour milling complex in North Vietnam. With the assistance of the then USSR Government, a team of Russian and Vietnamese experts started the project. A complete flour milling line was imported to Vietnam. A large quantity of rocks and soils was removed to prepare for the project site, which is now Cailan Industrial Zone, Halong City, Quangninh Province. Regrettably, the project was later suspended and then abandoned due to dire economic situation of Vietnam during the period.

Nearly twenty years later, in the spirit of openness and cooperation between Vietnam and the world as a whole and between Vietnam and Malaysia in particular, Malayan Flour Mills Berhad (MFMB), the first flour milling company of Malaysia, and Vietnam Northern Food Corporation (VINAFOOD I) was suggested by the Government of Vietnam to build a flour milling complex at the site of the old project.

1994

Thereby, Vimaflour Joint Venture Company was officially established on September 1st 1994. With the strong commitments of the shareholders, MFMB and VINAFOOD I, and the support of both Vietnamese and Malaysian governments, the project was considered highly feasible and selected for development funding by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank (WB).

The project was quickly implemented and the Plant was officially put under commercial operation in Jan 1998 with the milling capacity of 500 MT wheat per day, providing a wide range of flour and pollard products to customers in Vietnam.

2006

In 2006 the second production line was added increasing the total milling capacity to 1000 MT wheat per day.

2008

On June 10th 2008, in line with the new Business Law, the Company was re-registered under a new name Vimaflour Limited.

2016

In 2016, another modern production line of 500 MT wheat per day was put on operation making the total milling capacity of 1500 MT wheat per day.
